14 September 2018
On Friday 14 September, Old Blundellian, John Hollands (OH 1946-51), author of 14 books, filled the Theatre in Ondaatje Hall for a talk on his latest book 'The Man Who Shot Siegfried Sassoon'. The 85 year old author, whose first book written at the age of 21 sold more than three million copies, spoke for 45 minutes and enthralled his audience. Hollands, a former Subaltern in the Royal Welch Regiment, in 1961 met the man who had shot and failed to kill Sassoon, the famous War Poet who had protested against the carnage on the Western Front. Much information was given by the ex-RSM who had spoilt the killer's aim. Hollands had carefully and accurately unravelled a fascinating and hitherto untold story after many years' research. He had promised that the book would only be published after the last participant had died, hence its arrival now. After the talk Hollands answered numerous questions and sold many books, a proportion of the sales proceeds has been donated to the Royal British Legion.
